Homecoming With Arcadium Event!

Sat Sep 5, 2009, 4:08 PM

| MISSION STATEMENT |

Hullo my lovely little darlings, members of Elysian. The end of summer festival in Guethary was hopefully enjoyed all around and as I mentioned before, they lead well into our next marvelous event: the Interschool Homecoming Games. In years passed we have often held such events with our sister school of *Arcadium-School, but it has been a while since the last ones were held.

I, as your headmaster extraordinaire, highly encourage your participation in these games. There is nothing to fear, and this is an opportunity for you all to show both school spirit but also to show your peers the advances you have made in your schooling.

The Homecoming Games are a symbol of school pride and the strength of its students. It is a month long celebration, in which competitions between the two schools will be held. Points will be awarded to the winners of each competition and tallied. At the end of the month, a grand ceremony is held to announce the winning school. And they hold the title until the next games are held.

While we do encourage our students to play hard, we also must warn that you all be careful. Follow the rules and do not use any unnecessary means to win. We do not need any injuries. And please, you would bring shame to Elysian’s name if you were found cheating in any way. And trust me, my dears, you do NOT want me...displeased with you. :iconcheshire:

Below is a list of the compiled games and schedules for the next two months. Please do keep in mind that some events take place on our school grounds while others will be at the Arcadium campus. Each event’s participation is worth ten points. A single student is only allowed to enter up to two games per set. If you have multiple students, you may enter them all or some. But each individual is only allowed to join two events per set.Meaning at the minimum, 20 points can be earned per set, per student.

Set I

Location: Elysian Campus

Dates: September 6th to 19th

Event I: Opening Ceremonies

Event II: Chariot Race

-The schools’ take on the ever-popular mortal game, the three-legged race. Students pick their partner, and the two must act as one unit with two of their legs attached together. The goal of this game is to work together to pull a cart across the finish line first.

Event III: Labyrinth

-Elysian has had an old maze of tunnels under the school for some years now, and have finally been cleaned for use. Students who participate in this event are allowed to pick their teams of up to five students. They will then work together to navigate the various traps and the actual maze of the tunnels. The group who finishes in the fastest time will gain the win for their school.

Event IV: Scavenger Hunt

-In this event, all participants can either chose to work alone or in a team of up to six four students. These teams will all be given a list of clues which lead to members of the faculty from their particular school. Each faculty member will sign the list once the team finds them, and the first team back with all the signatures wins. This shows how well the students know their teachers, and may force students of different dorms to work together.

Set II

Location: Elysian Campus

Dates: September 20th to October 3rd

Event I: Capture the Flag

-The event is an all out war between the two schools, yet the basics of the game are the same. This is one of the few events that span both campuses. The Arcadium’s flag at it’s campus, and Elysian’s at theirs. Participants must defend their flag while trying to steal the other one from the opposing team. Participants can use their powers, but both grounds will be patrolled by staff members to keep people from being hurt.

Event II: Warrior’s Run

-Another variation on a mortal game. All students who participate select one member from each school to stand in the middle of a set field. These two will be known as the warriors. The rest of the participants must make it passed the warriors to the other side of the field, if they are caught they become a warrior as well. The Elysian warriors may try to stop the Arcadium warriors from tagging people, and non-warriors may try to get members of the opposite school tagged. This run across the field is repeated. After the time limit, the school who has the most non-warriors wins.

Event III: Cooking Challenge

-Elysian is a prominent part of the French countryside, and the area is known for its food. Students must pair up and create their own unique dish. A panel of faculty made up from both schools will award points based on overall appearance, taste and creativity. The school with the most average points at the end of the challenge wins.

Event IV: The Hidden Totem

-The final Elysian event starts at the end of the last week on that campus and will take place until the end of the entire games. Before the students are sent back to Arcadium, they are all given a clue about the whereabouts of a secret totem hidden somewhere on the campus. Elysian students are given an extra clue to aid them as Arcadium students may know the land better. If a student from either school finds the totem, the object is to keep it away from the other school, and also to keep it secret. No one will know who has the totem, if anyone has found it until it is asked for at the closing ceremonies. The school who presents the totem gets extra points at the end.

Set III

Location: Arcadium Campus

Dates: October 4th to 17th

Event I: Cross-Campus Race

-Participants of this event will race on a set course around the Arcadium campus and the surrounding coastline. The course will be monitored by staff members to keep the students safe and help if they get lost. They can use any form of powers to win, whether flight, transformation or just plain running, so long as they stay on the marked path.

Event II: Statue-Decorating

-The Arcadium campus is littered with ancient Greek statues. Participants in this event can either divide into teams of their schoolmates or work alone to decorate the statue in any way possible. They can dress, paint, or whatever they’d like to make their statue the best in show.

Event III: Olympiad

-This event takes root in Arcadium’s Greek past. Four different sports take place during this event and students can chose to take part in all, or just some. The first sport is the discus throw, the next the javelin, the long jump, and finally the high jump. Students are encouraged to use their powers to help them excel. However, it is also the perfect time to show how much control of them they have mastered.

Event IV: Tri-Relay

-This event is a relay race which maximizes students abilities to perform in different elements. Each course will be littered with obstacles suited for the environment. Teams consist of three students, each chosen in hopes their powers will help win for their school. The race will start in the water, move to the land and finally end in the sky. The first team to cross the finish wins the point for their school.

Set IV

Location: Arcadium Campus

Dates: October 18th to 31st

Event I: The Hunt

-This event takes place at night in the woods around Arcadium’s west border. It is essentially a large game of tag, where the two schools will be playing against each other. Each school team selects one Hunter to represent them, the hunters job is to tag the other team’s members. The other team members may either stay hidden from the other hunter or help their hunter tag. If a student is tagged by the hunter, they are required to head back inside and are out of the game. At the end of the time limit, the school who has the most untagged individuals wins, or if one hunter tags the other teams hunter, the game is over.

Event II: The Joust

-This event is usually a favorite, even those students who do not participate show up in the cheering crowd to show their support. Participants are once again paired up, usually one large student and a smaller, light-weight student. One student is deemed the rider, and sits on the other’s shoulders. Each rider carries with them a flag, the object of the game being to steal the other school’s flags. The two students must work together in order to keep themselves and their teammates’ flags safe. Once a rider’s flag is stolen, the two students are out of the game. The last pair standing wins it for the school, or whichever school still has the most active members at the end of the time limit.

Event III: The Tower

-The only event that consists of actual combat, the Tower is one of the oldest events in the school’s history. Students are first pitted against others from their school in a tournament to see who the strongest is. Then, in a final match, the two strongest from each school are matched against each other. The winner of this match determines which school wins. All matches are all carefully monitored to keep the students safe. Students are allowed to use their powers, within limits and each are given padded clothing and a padded weapon. All match rules are the same, they take place on a platform over a pool of water, the object is to knock the opponent in the water.

Event IV: Closing Ceremonies+ Halloween Festival

As you can see by the dates, two weeks will be allotted to give people ample time to submit works for each events, and organize roleplays that correspond.

Some games will consist of an organized roleplay in a specific chat at a certain time of day. If you chose to participate this way, it does count as one of your student’s games and by playing earns the ten points. Otherwise, to gain points for your school one must submit a completed piece of art or fiction that shows visible effort. Drawings must be fully colored, and writings must be lengthy, no drabbles. Do not worry, both schools have the same rules.

We here are well aware that at this moment, *Elysian-Academy has more students who can participate. That is why it was agreed that the total points will be averaged by the number of students who participate. This number will ultimately be what decides the winner. We hope that all of you chose to participate in the games, every point will count.

There is no need to sign up, you will be added to a list once you have submitted a piece of work for a game, or once we see you in the chat roleplaying one of them. That list will be kept below, as well as a current tally of both school’s points. Please remember the rules stated above about only joining two games per set, per character (not per member!). Your entries for the set can be submitted any time in that two week time frame, but once the set changes, entries from the passed set will not be counted.

Also do keep in mind as well, only roleplays that are specifically organized for this event, and witnessed by at least one staff member from each club will be counted. Side roleplays out of the chat or those not organized by both clubs do not count for points.

If your art, whether fiction or drawing, includes other students there are also some rules. Yes, if the student is pictured or takes a large part in the entry (mentions of names in fiction, etc. will not count) it does also earn ten points. But it also counts for that student’s participation per set, even if the character is not yours. Meaning it takes up their allotment of two per set. So make sure to ask the student’s owner if it is okay for you to include them in your entry as they may have plans of their own for that character. For an example, if five students are pictured in the same drawing, it earns 50 points with that one piece.

For the first and last days, you are more than welcome to submit something for points as well. For the opening ceremonies, something that shows your school spirit is welcomed. The closing ceremonies will take place after a day-long Halloween celebration, complete with food stands and carnival games. You may even want to dress up in costumes.

A note for all faculty members as well. Feel free to earn your school points, while you may not participate in the events themselves, both schools will need ample security for the students, referees, and those of you willing to help set up and take down events. Submitting either a written or drawn work for these will also gain you ten points. Faculty is however, still subject to the two events per set.

If you have any questions, the I will gladly answer them. And I know that I can speak for all the staff here when I say that I wish you all good luck, and hope that you do Elysian proud.

(entry slightly adapted from *TheForbiddenFox's for AS )

New Event: End of Summer Festival! [UPDATE]

Sat Sep 5, 2009, 12:52 PM

| MISSION STATEMENT |

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: THOSE WHO ARE SENDING IN APPS...please please please label them correctly. The dorm to which your character is applying MUST be in the title. If it is faculty, put that in the title, if it is a town resident, put that in the title. THOSE WHO ARE SENDING UPDATED SHEETS/REVISED SHEETS, please also label them. Different mods read the apps for the separate dorms and such, as well as the updated sheets and revised sheets. We need to know how to sort them, and who needs to read them. IF YOU DO NOT TITLE THEM CORRECTLY. They will likely take longer to be read, or possibly not read at all, and you will be unhappy. So please remember this.
TO THOSE SENDING IN APPS WITH MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER. Unless they are both going into the same dorm, you must send separate apps for each. Thank you~

===

Hullo my darling little lambs. I fear I must be the one to remind you these lazy dog *cough* days of summer are quickly drawing to a close. However, not all is so somber and forlorn that a bit of festivity and spirits in the form of a town festival can't lighten your the mood! As, yes my children, the time has come around once more for the Village of Guethary End of Summer Festival!

For those of you new to our lovely campus this year, you'll find that this is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year: a week long holiday of end of season merrymaking. It's a wonderful chance for the members of our school to join with those of the greater community of the town we share.

From carnival rides and food to international and interworld wonders, there will be something for everyone. Businesses in town take this time to offer discounted wares and services and villagers who call Guethary home are delighted to open their doors to callers. Get your hair done up in late summer flowers at the salon or receive a fortune telling session at one of many magical shops. Eat everything from home cooked comfort foods to foreign fare at the street vendors. Parades, rides, games, and more can be found day and night all week. AND as a special surprise: The portals between Elysian Academy and our sister institution, Arcadium School will be open to all. Please remember to be on your best behavior in town and abroad in Greece, at Arcadium.

I'll have more information for all you surely curious listeners in short order. Why, I even see a rather ornate envelope sitting in my mail tray even now. I wonder what sort of gala that could be for...

Hello, Students of Elysian

I'm a bit newer to this part of town, though not the area, and I've put a small proposition forward to your delightful Headmaster. I hear a large portion of you spend a good amount of time at the school. And, quite honestly, I've heard quite interesting things about the school of Elysian and I'm rather intrigued.
Now, the summer days are nearly done, winding down quickly. However, I've decided to hold a Gala at my own manor for the last dying embers of the warm month and the awakening of the harvest season.

This is where the fun part starts.
Every student, and any employees that wish to partake, will be receiving a grant of 200 euros to spend on appropriate clothing and other needs for the event.
The theme is, of course, orange, yellow, red and white. So please do dress accordingly.

On the appointed day, limousines will be arriving at the school and heading toward the manor with about fifteen minutes between each one, making a continuous loop to guarantee that no one's left behind. All festivities will take place in the main ballroom where food and drinks will be supplied, though all alchoholic drinks have been enchanted to become non-alchoholic once ingested by a minor, so don't think you're going to be sneaking around rules that way.

There are, of course, lavatories near the ballroom, and the back doors open onto the garden. You are perfectly welcome to wander that area to your liking.

However, there are two conditions. Do not go near the West Wing, which has been partitioned off, and do not touch the summoning circle in the center of the garden. Since there is a fence around the latter, stumbling onto it will hardly be an excuse.
Other than that, please enjoy the night's festivities to your fullest extent.

Matthieu Laroche

On other notes, I would like to formally announce the addition of a few members to our lovely administration team (new mods, for those needing plain speak). Please give a friendly and encouraging welcome to =Akkutsune, *Axel-Pwnderson, =backshadow, *kiminess, ~Cherubix and ~Neko-Saphira. Hopefully, this will serve to speed up application acceptance times and general overall smoother running of EA. :3

One Year Anniversary Event!

ELYSIAN ACADEMY
Welcome to Elysian Academy, a private boarding school devoted to educating supernatural youth from every walk of life (and death) and promoting peace between the species. Founded in ancient times, the academy is known for it's extensive and rigorous academic program. The school's structure supports students in their personal, social, and intellectual development.

We seek students from diverse cultural, racial, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds. Whether they come from angelic, demonic, fae, cybertronic, or other beginnings, we welcome the best and brightest here at Elysian Academy.

Our vast and luxurious campus is located on the south-western coast of France, next to the small, but gorgeous village of Guethary. The village of Guethary is about an hour from the larger city of Biarritz and welcomes our students without prejudice.
Elysian Headmaster Hedley

School Newspaper

Greetings and salutations, my lovely students, colleagues, and friends! It would seem it's that time of the year once more. The days are beginning to be longer and the snow is finally starting to melt (though we all know we'll likely be hit with another surprise storm or two).

It is within this spirit of new beginnings, I would like to remind you of the date fast approaching, that of our glorious academy's own beginning. That's right, my fine friends, it's nearly time for our anniversary. It is with much pleasure, I announce our anniversary event for this year: Elysian Cultural Festival! Allow me to explain how this will work.

Cultural Festival will be a two month event, in order to fully celebrate the occasion and get the most out of it. There are going to be multiple aspects to this event including multiple small challenges (which shall be posted in the chat), an individual event, a group event, and role-playing as usual in the chatroom and forum.

The group event is the big event for this time around. To sign up, simply comment below. Each member who signs up will be randomly placed with a small group (3-4) and it will be each group's responsibility to come up with a booth, performance, or the like for cultural festival. Just to give you some ideas, think along the lines of a tea ceremony, a play, udon booth, fortune telling booth, host club, speed dating, or something about your characters cultures. Be creative, think along the lines of a festival/carnival. Then as a group, create your project in whatever form you desire, be it drawing, fanfiction, or something else.

You may also do this on your own, though if you do it would be lovely if you took it beyond the usual drawing entry and went for something like a story book or another more original medium. You have two months, after all.

The other smaller event will be listed as they come up. Keep an eye on the main page and the chat. Also, don't forget we have a special forum, just for Elysian (full of lovely pictures of our campus and loaded with information). [link] Anyone in the academy is welcome to add to any part of the forums.

UPDATE! UPDATE!

As of March 8th, assignments for group event have been noted!

If you signed up and didn't receive a note, please let us know as soon as possible!
What Now?
As we would like each group to have a unique theme to their show/booth/etc for the Cultural Festival, you have one week (until March 16th) to get together with your group and decide what you'll be doing. Then have one member send us a note to let us know and we will keep a master list here in the journal. Please try to keep in mind the cultural theme, if possible. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE.
Already Taken:
Kissing Booth
Tea Ceremony
Face Painting Booth
Game: Walking Across Hot Coals
"Yum Cha" Booth
Haunted House

Also! Look forward to exciting updates to the school wardrobe, coming soon!

School Newspaper

Hello and greetings to the students (those new and farewell to those of old) and staff of Elysian. My name is Manda Seiryū and I am the Editor of the School Newspaper. I will be the one to report on the activities running rampant on he campus from now on, as directed by the School Board and Head Master Hedley.

PLEASE COMMENT IN THIS JOURNAL NOW, IF YOU ARE PART OF SECRET HEDLEY CLAWS, WITH IDEAS OF WHAT YOUR CHARACTER(S) WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE FOR A PRESENT

Regardless of troubling times- we must all keep a positive outlook on any situation. Without a positive outlook- we all fall victim to our own demons. This goes to say that there have been a few missing students on the campus- and Hedley seems to continue to keep things very hush-hush. After some research, it seems that several people have disappeared at the hands of something rather sinister. Regardless of how I am not allowed to print their names, I will wish them well and hope that something will be done to bring our students (and apparently staff) back to our campus. It is encouraged that all students should walk with a friend at night and not wander off the campus grounds- you never know what is lurking near Hedley's magic. It is a matter of safety- and as such Hedley orders this with much care for his students and staff. If you feel unsafe in any way, you can easily contact a staff member via your student handbook- their personal numbers are listed in the back.

On a more positive note- Christmas is coming up, as is the annual Yule Ball. There are even rumors of a secret santa exchange running across the campus. If you are interested, let a staff member know!
